Hard Work and Innovative Leadership for Oakland – Getting Things Done!

Councilmember Kalb brings 30 years of experience advocating for progressive policies and public interest causes to the City Council.  In his first term, he successfully authored laws and sponsored budget changes to increase funding for affordable housing and create new protections for tenants, expand crime reduction efforts, require safe storage of guns in homes and cars, ban the handling and storage of coal in Oakland, strengthen the authority of Oakland’s Public Ethics Commission, provide additional funding to expand library services, and much more.

From 2009-11, Dan was a leader in passing landmark legislation that requires a substantial percentage of the state’s electricity to come from clean, renewable sources.

He has spent his career analyzing problems, vetting solutions, writing legislation and building successful coalitions. Councilmember Kalb has a master’s degree in Public Administration & Nonprofit Management from the University of San Francisco, and a Baccalaureate of Science degree in Conservation of Natural Resources from U.C. Berkeley.
